STEAG Solar Energy Solutions GmbH (SENS), a unit of German energy group STEAG, has tied up with Netherlands-based Greenbuddies Energy NV to develop solar projects in the Benelux countries, starting with 250 MWp.

The partnership will focus on ground-mounted photovoltaic (PV) projects and related services in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, STEAG said on Tuesday.

Under the cooperation agreement, the duo will seek to execute the 250-MWp portfolio by 2025. They expect to bring the first schemes to the construction-ready phase by the start of 2023.

SENS’ role in the collaboration will be to plan and develop the schemes and install the capacity as general engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor. The German firm will also take care of the power plants’ operations and maintenance (O&M).

"For us, the Benelux countries are the logical extension of our existing activities in Europe. We still see enormous potential in this market, even though there are already existing players and projects there", said Andre Kremer, managing director of SENS.

The German solar services provider noted it has several years of experience in the Dutch market gained through EPC contracts for rooftop and ground-mounted solar projects.
