Sep 19, 2024 13:28 CESTDec 9, 2013 - German green power company Steag New Energies (SNE) said on Monday it is investing EUR 13.1 million (USD 18m) in six biomethane combined heat and power (CHP) plants with a total capacity of 10 MW, to be operational in Germany by the end of the year.
The sites are located in Essen-Ruettenscheid (in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia), Lebach (Saarland), Hattersheim (Hesse), Koblenz (Rhineland-Palatinate), Geithain and Rochlitz (Saxony). The plant in Rochlitz has been already operating since the end of October.
The plants will use 17.2 million cu m of biomethane per year.
Another CHP plant is being currently built in Ilmenau (Thuringia). Ilmenauer Waermeversorgung GmbH, in which the city of Ilmenau owns 51%, while Steag New Energies holds the remainder, will invest EUR 1.45 million in the 800 KW facility.
