Yoghurt maker Stonyfield Organic yesterday said it is backing seven solar projects in New Hampshire, Minnesota and Wisconsin so that it can achieve its goal of sourcing 100% of its power from renewable energy at a specific site three years early.

In order to realise four solar projects in New Hampshire, the company is partnering with Aligned Climate Capital, which owns them, and developer GSSG Solar LLC. Construction is underway and the facilities are expected to be commissioned by January.

Stonyfield Organic is also collaborating with developer OneEnergy Renewables for Rushford Village Solar, Stockton Solar and Stromland Solar, located in Fillmore and Winona Counties in Minnesota and Buffalo County, Wisconsin. The three projects represent an investment of over USD 8 million (EUR 6.9m). The facilities are due to be commissioned in November, with Stonyfield Organic to begin receiving renewable energy credits in December.

With the seven solar projects, the company is expected to reach its target of 100% renewable energy for its manufacturing facility in Londonderry, New Hampshire, by the end of 2022, ahead of its original goal of 2025 announced in June 2021.

The company is also looking to source 100% of the electricity for its dairy supply chain from renewable energy by 2025 and to have a carbon positive dairy supply chain by 2030.
