Sudan may become home to up to 500 MW of new solar farms under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by government representatives of Sudan and the United Arab Emirates, the African country's energy ministry announced.

The Emirati side, through one of its companies, will build and operate the plants for 20 years, while the Sudanese government committed to purchase their output at competitive prices over the contract period, the energy ministry said.

The solar projects will train and employ Sudanese workers during the construction and operation stages, according to the brief statement. No other details were released.
