Sumimoto JV to install 15 MW of solar carports for mall developer

A joint venture of Japanese trader Sumitomo Corp (TYO:8053) will deploy about 15 MW of carport-type solar power systems for local shopping mall developer Aeon Mall Co Ltd (TYO:8905).

A comprehensive power purchase agreement (PPA) was signed by Sun Trinity LLC, the JV between Sumitomo and Shikoku Electric Power Company Inc (TYO:9507), it was announced on Thursday.

Under the deal, Sun Trinity will install the systems in the outdoor parking lots of 12 Aeon Mall stores in Japan, one of which will have a 2.4-MW capacity.

Sun Trinity and AEON plan to expand this agreement to cover more than 50 stores in total by 2025, and even more in the future.

Sumimoto estimates that the agreement will allow the mall developer to cover around 18 million kWh of its electrical needs, equal to the demand of some 4,300 ordinary homes.
