Chinese photovoltaic (PV) inverter and energy storage system provider Sungrow Power Supply Co Ltd (SHE:300274) on Tuesday said it has signed a 1.4-GWh energy storage supply deal with British renewables and energy storage company Penso Power and investment firm BW Energy Storage Systems (BW ESS).

The Chinese company will provide its PowerTitan 2.0 liquid-cooled energy storage systems for the construction of the Hams Hall energy storage project in central England. The project is responding to growing demand for grid-scale energy storage technology in the UK’s ancillary service market given the significant integration of renewables, the company explained.

The Hams Hall project, designed for grid-forming, will feature 280 sets of PowerTitan 2.0 system.

The agreement is expanding Sungrow’s partnership with BW ESS.

“We have enjoyed numerous successful collaborations with Sungrow, in our Sweden project portfolio and by bringing its innovative liquid-cooled 3-hour energy storage system to Europe at our pioneering Bramley project in the UK. We are excited to do so again at Hams Hall,” said BW ESS chief executive Erik Stromso.

Sungrow recently shipped PowerTitan 2.0 units for the 100-MW/330-MWhe Bramley project.
