Sungrow Power Supply Co Ltd (SHE:300274) said on Tuesday it has installed a 2.7-MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) array along with a 700-kW/333-kWh energy storage system for five islands in the Maldives.

More specifically, the Chinese solar inverter maker deployed the system on the islands of Addu, Villingili, Kurendhoo, Buruni and Goidhoo, which rely heavily on diesel for power. The installations now form a PV diesel hybrid energy storage microgrid.

Sungrow said it has supplied the entire PV and energy storage system solution, including PV and storage inverters, as well as the energy management system. The Sungrow-Samsung SDI joint venture, in turn, supplied the Li-ion batteries for the project.

These installations can help save USD 1.4 million (EUR 1.2m) in fuel costs and 4.32 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually. They will also meet above 30% of local domestic and office energy demands.
