Sungrow to equip 362-MW energy storage project in UK

Chinese solar inverter maker Sungrow Power Supply Co Ltd (SHE:300274) on Monday said it is supplying a turnkey energy storage system solution to a 362-MW/391-MWh energy storage project in the UK of UK company Statera Energy.

The first phase of the subsidy-free energy storage scheme was connected to the grid in the first quarter of 2022, with the balance to come online later this year.

The project will support security of supply and will also bolster the National Grid’s Dynamic Containment frequency response service. A positive development for battery asset owners in the UK has been the January 2021 move by UK electricity system operator National Grid to start allowing the stacking of revenues in parts of the Balancing Mechanism, the company noted.

“Statera believes that battery storage will play a pivotal role in facilitating the transition to low carbon generation and will continue to work with Sungrow on coming projects in the UK in 2022,” said Statera Energy managing director Tom Vernon.

Separately, on Wednesday Sungrow said it has signed a 100-MW sales contract in Pakistan with its partner Energy for You during the SOLAR Pakistan Expo 2022. At the event, the company also introduced two products -- SG350HX, a powerful string inverter for utility-scale plants, and SG125CX, an updated version tailored for Pakistan’s commercial and industrial customers.
