Chinese PV inverter and battery storage firm Sungrow Power Supply Co Ltd (SHE:300274) has secured a contract to supply its technology for the Amaala luxury resort that is being developed on Saudi Arabia's northwestern Red Sea coast and will be powered entirely by renewable energy.

The agreement was signed with India-based engineering conglomerate Larsen & Toubro (BOM:500510), L&T, and concerns the delivery of 165 MW of PV inverters and 160 MW/760 MWh of energy storage systems, a press statement said today.

The Amaala wellness destination will feature 29 hotels, 3,900 rooms, 1,200 luxury villas, apartments and estate homes, along with retail, dining and leisure facilities. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2027.

In September, French utility EDF Group and UAE-based renewables developer Masdar signed a concession deal for a multi-utilities infrastructure facility with project developer Red Sea Global (RSG) that includes the design, construction and operation of the systems.

The Amaala off-grid project is anticipated to generate 410 GWh of clean electricity annually, offsetting nearly 500,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. It is set to become the world's second-largest off-grid energy storage system, delivering uninterrupted green power 24/7 with zero carbon emissions.
