Queensland Hydro picks contractors for 2-GW pumped storage project
Sep 18, 2024 6:05 CESTChinese solar inverter maker Sungrow Power Supply Co Ltd (SHE:300274) will provide its equipment for an 800-MWp photovoltaic (PV) project in Qatar.
The company will deliver the 1500V string inverter SG250HX for the Al Kharsaa project, which is set to become the world's third largest solar complex. The deal came from a consortium between Japan’s Marubeni Corp (TYO:8002) and French energy major Total SE (EPA:FP), Sungrow said on Wednesday.
To be installed in a tropical desert area 80 km (49.7 miles) west of Doha, the solar farm will cover 1,000 ha. The capacity is planned to go online before 2022.
Marubeni and Total won the Al Kharsaa project in Qatar’s first tender for solar power capacity and have in place a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) to supply electricity to Kahramaa (Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation). The output of the complex will cover around 10% of the country’s electricity peak demand and will help save 26 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions during its lifetime.
In September, Sungrow’s inverters were chosen for the 900-MW phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum solar complex in Dubai.
