IEA urges proactive measures to integrate renewables
Sep 18, 2024 11:17 CESTDec 6, 2012 - US lamb supplier Superior Farms said Wednesday it had installed a 1-MW wind turbine at its processing plant in Dixon, California.
The turbine, which is designed to generate 2.2 million kWh of electricity a year, is expected to become operational in early 2013. It is expected to cover nearly half of the Dixon facility’s power needs.
The wind turbine is mounted on a 55-metres-high (180 ft) tower and has a blade diameter of 61.4 meters.
The turbine was installed and will be owned and operated by California-based Foundation Windpower under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Superior Farms.
According to the company’s estimates, the turbine will help eliminate carbon dioxide emissions equivalent to removing some 800 cars from the road and would provide the equivalent of electricity necessary to power 250 average households.
