Survey shows high renewables support in MENA region

Aug 26, 2014 - About 71.3% of the respondents in a recently conducted poll in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region believe that wind, solar and other renewables are “the most up-and-coming technologies”.

The "Green Workplaces in the MENA" study was carried out by Dubai-based recruitment website operator Bayt.com Inc and its results were published on Monday.

Some 72.5% of the respondents consider going green to be very important to their lifestyles, while 23.2% say it is “moderately” important. Pollution, conservation of natural resources and other environmental issues concern “to a large extent” around 80% of the participants in the poll. Just 27.7% of respondents claim they are “very aware” of the concept of carbon footprint.

Approximately 16.3% of the participants believe that electric cars and other alternative fuel vehicles will take off in the future.

Bayt.com gathered data for the poll online from June 24 to August 12. The survey involved 7,925 respondents from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Algeria, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia.
