India launches 500-MW offshore wind tender off Gujarat's coast
Sep 17, 2024 16:07 CESTIndia’s Suzlon Energy Ltd (BOM:532667) on Monday announced that it has received an order from a public sector undertaking (PSU) to supply 1,166 MW of its wind turbines for three projects in the state of Gujarat.
The order, which Suzlon says is the largest in India’s wind power market, was placed by NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), the renewables arm of central government-owned energy conglomerate NTPC Ltd (BOM:532555).
NGEL purchased 370 units of Suzlon’s S144 wind turbines, each with a rated capacity of 3.15 MW and equipped with a hybrid lattice tubular tower. NGEL’s wholly-owned unit NTPC Renewable Energy Limited will use some of the machines for two projects in Gujarat, while the rest will go to a third site for IndianOil NTPC Green Energy Pvt Ltd, also a NGEL group company.
As part of the agreement, Suzlon is due to supply the turbines and execute the projects. This includes turbine installation and commissioning, and operations and maintenance services post-commissioning, the Indian turbine maker said.
“We are committed to delivering this project with exceptional quality and within the stipulated timelines. This strategic collaboration, featuring our flagship product - the S144,3.15 MW wind turbine, is set to become a landmark case study in the sector, showcasing the success of the 'Make in India' initiative by advancing local manufacturing and sustainable energy solutions," said Suzlon Group CEO JP Chalasani.
