Taiwanese speciality chemicals manufacturer Swancor Holding Co Ltd (TPE:3708) on Friday unveiled a collaboration on recyclable blades with wind turbine maker Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE).

The companies plan to use Swancor’s recyclable thermosetting epoxy resin EzCiclo, which at the moment is being subjected to a supplier qualification process with Siemens Gamesa.

Swancor, which is also involved in Taiwan’s offshore wind sector, said that EzCiclo and its degradation liquid CleaVER are being explored for possible supply to Siemens Gamesa. Together the products would enable the recovery and recycling of blade components such as resins and glass fibre following turbine decommissioning.

"In order to support Siemens Gamesa in implementing localisation commitments in Taiwan, Swancor and Siemens Gamesa are carrying out a strategic collaboration on recyclable blade resins," said Swancor chairman Robert Tsai. "Through Swancor's recyclable thermosetting resin technologies, the recyclable resin and the composite materials can be reused, assisting Siemens Gamesa in moving towards their goal of providing fully recyclable wind turbines in Taiwan," added Tsai.
