Sweden on Monday gave the go-ahead to a 1.4-GW offshore floating wind project owned by state-owned utility Vattenfall AB and Norwegian renewable energy company Zephyr, while shelving 13 other offshore schemes over national security concerns.

The project, dubbed Poseidon, is planned to be located in southern Skagerrak outside Stenungssund, off the Swedish west coast. The government’s permit requires the site to be completed within ten years, or by no later than 2034, a statement says.

The wind park will host 81 wind turbines with a maximum height of 340 metres (1,115 ft). Once commissioned, it will produce up to 5.5 TWh of clean power annually.

Vattenfall took a majority stake in the project from Zephyr in 2022.
