Infener to set up 20-MW green hydrogen hub in Germany
Sep 17, 2024 14:59 CESTSwedish hygiene and health company Essity AB (STO:ESSITY-A) said on Wednesday it is initiating the use of green hydrogen in its production processes with a EUR-4-million (USD 4.7m) pilot project at a factory in Germany.
Essity said that its site in Mainz-Kostheim is conducting tests to determine the extent to which green hydrogen can replace natural gas in the tissue production process without affecting the quality of the products.
The firm will gradually add green hydrogen to its energy supply once it undertakes the needed installations and re-builds the on-site paper machine. The goal is to run the drying hood of the paper machine solely on green hydrogen by the autumn of next year.
"We will be the first in the world to use green hydrogen for tissue production,” said Magnus Groth, president and CEO of Essity, which aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
