Swedish energy systems supplier Metacon AB (STO:META) on Thursday said it has secured a contract to supply a 30-MW pressurised alkaline electrolysis plant to a Greek refinery, located in Ag. Theodoroi in Corinth.

The contract, worth EUR 19.8 million (USD 21.6m), comes from Motor Oil Hellas Corinth Refineries SA (FRA:MHZ).

The hydrogen production plant will have adaptations to be able to expand by another 20 MW in a second stage. It will be assembled in Metacon's factory in Patras, Greece. The electrolysis stacks and certain other components will be delivered by Metacon's manufacturing partner China’s PERIC Hydrogen Technologies Co Ltd.

The Swedish company said the deal with Motor Oil marks the start of the implementation of its industrial strategy both in terms of sales and the gradual build-up of its own manufacturing in Europe. The order also marks the start of Metacon's collaboration with Siemens on industrial electrolysers design and technology implementation in Metacon's European manufacturing, the company also said.

Motor Oil will itself install the electrolysis plant with the support of Metacon and PERIC.
