Swedish online pharmacy Apotea’s new logistics centre in Morgongava, Uppsala County, is expected to generate more power than it can actually consume annually thanks to what is touted as the country’s largest rooftop solar array.

Local PV installer Solkompaniet has deployed a 1.5-MW photovoltaic (PV) system on the rooftop of the facility using more than 5,500 GCL polycrystalline modules and an aerodynamic mounting system from German company IBC Solar AG, the latter said today.

According to the statement, Sweden’s previous largest rooftop PV system is a 1.1-MW installation, again by Solkompaniet, on a shopping mall in Helsingborg.

Apoteas’ solar array is estimated to generate nearly 1.5 GWh of electricity per year, which is more than its annual energy consumption. The surplus power is sold to a regional utility, the announcement says.
