Swedish-Romanian JV opens 5.0 mln euro biogas-fuelled power plant in Romania

Swedish-Romanian joint venture Genesis Biopartner has opened a biogas-fuelled cogeneration plant in Romania following a 5.0 million euro ($6.4 million) investment and plans more similar projects, it said.

The plant has a capacity of 1.0 megawatt electrical and 1.2 megawatt thermal energy, and can process 49 tonnes of organic substrate daily, Genesis Biopartner said on its website on Tuesday.

Construction works on the plant, which is located in Filipestii de Padure in the southern county of Prahova, commenced in June 2012.

The company is now carrying out feasibility studies for other potential locations, it added.

Genesis Biopartner was set up by Baupartner Romania and Swedish company Vireo Energy in March 2013.
