EIB, FirstRand Bank to provide EUR 400m for green projects in S Africa
Sep 13, 2024 10:36 CESTDenmark’s Swire Renewable Energy A/S (SRE) has acquired Obelisk Energy Services Limited, a South African provider of services to the renewable energy sector, marking its second inorganic growth investment within a week.
Cape Town-based Obelisk offers maintenance, testing and support services, including wind monitoring and assessment, blade and tower services, solar panel installations, and electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions, among others. The company has supported more than 200 renewable energy development sites and over 20 wind farms in South Africa since its founding in 2010.
The agreed transaction, the financial terms of which were not disclosed, also encompasses Obelisk’s related group companies in South Africa and Ireland.
The deal with Obelisk comes shortly after SRE said it has taken over Altitec Blade Services, a UK-based wind turbine rotor blade repair and maintenance company with offices in the UK, Germany, Australia and South Africa.
Following the two acquisitions, SRE intends to merge all the South African entities to establish a larger company to drive its growth strategy throughout Africa in the renewable energy supply chain, the buyer noted in the press release.
