Meyer Burger's CEO and CFO to exit as revamp plan unveiled
Sep 18, 2024 11:49 CESTSwitzerland is expected to conclude 2023 with around 1,500 MW of newly installed solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity, according to estimates by industry association Swissolar.
This corresponds to nearly 40% growth compared to the previous year, Swissolar said on Wednesday. The estimates are based on registration figures at funding agency Pronovo and market feedback.
The installed solar capacity across the Alpine country is projected to exceed 6,200 MW at the end of 2023, which will enable annual electricity production of around 6 TWh next year. Thus, the share of solar power in Switzerland's total annual power consumption should reach 10% in 2024.
The evaluation reveals that the markets for both smaller and larger solar systems have grown significantly this year. The expansion of large systems was boosted by the introduction of a new subsidy for installations without self-consumption.
More factors that bolstered the solar rollout in the country include high electricity prices, which affect especially large users, and the increasing adoption of electromobility and heat pumps which is fostering the demand for photovoltaics.
In 2024, Swissolar expects further market growth of at least 10% which will bring the country closer to the target of adding over 2,000 MW of new solar capacity annually from 2027 on.
