Tanzania Electric Supply Co Ltd (TANESCO) has canceled three tenders for power generation projects using solar, wind and coal-based technologies.

The state-owned utility announced the news in Tanzanian press on Friday, according to two London-listed companies, which commented on the development.

The cancelled tenders include: tender PA/001/2018-19/HQ/N/032 for large solar power projects totalling up to 150 MWp in Dodoma, Singida, Shinyanga, Mwanza, Simiyu and Iringa regions; and tender PA/001/2018-19/HQ/N/034 for large wind projects with total capacity of up to 200 MW in Singida, Njombe and Dodoma regions. TANESCO had published these tender invitations in September. The deadline for both was October 19.

In the new announcement it says that the tenders have been cancelled, but adds that the management is "working on next cause of action" to execute them.

According to the two London-listed companies, Kibo Energy Plc (LON:KIBO) and Edenville Energy Plc (LON:EDL), which are involved in coal, there are technical issues that need to be address before the process can continue.

Below is the text of the notice as provided by the companies:

"This is to inform the general public that due to unavoidable circumstances and pursuant to Section 59 sub section 2(f) of the Public Procurement Act 2011 and its amendment 2016, TANESCO with immediate effect has cancelled the tender proceedings for the following invitations for qualifications Information (IFQs): - Tender Ref. The abovementioned Tenders have been cancelled and remain annulled with immediate effect.

The Management is working on next cause of action to execute these Tenders.
