Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTThe Green Energy initiative of the government of Tanzania has received north of USD 800 million in donations, Minister of Energy and Minerals, Sospeter Muhongo, said at the official launch of the programme on Tuesday.
The European Union has pledged EUR 108 million (USD 120m), the African Development Bank contributed USD 100 million, some USD 300 million will come from Nordic countries and another USD 300 million will be provided by the World Bank.

"The Green energy programme will target to achieve three goals: improve energy services, double the energy efficiency level and make renewables a substantial part of the country's energy mix," Sospeter Muhongo said.
The Energy Minister also said a special meeting will be held in September with all businesses interested in participation in the rural electrification efforts.
The Green Energy effort is part of the Tanzania SE4All Action Agenda and Investment Prospectus launched on Monday.
