Private firm TD Energy has received the regulatory nods needed to proceed with the construction of a 40.8-MW solar power facility in the town of Norton, Zimbabwe, The Herald Business reports.

The company has obtained approvals from regulators such as the Environmental Management Agency, Zimbabwe Revenue Authority and the Zimbabwe National Water Authority. At the same time, the offtaker -- Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) -- has informed the project developer that the new plant will not cause problems on the grid.

The construction process is seen to last 56 weeks.

TD Energy expects to invest at least USD 80 million (EUR 75m) in the project. The funds will come from an unnamed foreign technical partner, The Herald said.

The newspaper also added, citing a source privy to the developments, that Gideon Gono, the former Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor, is the owner of TD Energy and serves as the chairman of its board of directors.
