Nacap to build hydrogen pipeline for AGA’s Aussie green ammonia project
Sep 19, 2024 16:03 CESTAlternative fuels producer HIF Global said that it has hired French engineering company Technip Energies NV (EPA:TE) to assess technology options and initiate plant design for its proposed e-fuels production facility in northern Tasmania.
Technip Energies will work on the HIF Tasmania e-fuels project which HIF Global has set up some 30 kilometres (18.6 miles) from the city of Burnie in Australia’s island state. Once up and running, the facility is expected to be capable of producing each year up to 100 million litres of carbon-neutral e-fuels, obtained from green hydrogen and recycled carbon dioxide.

The resulting fuels can dropped-in to existing vehicle, aircraft or ship engines without any modifications required.
“We are on target to submit a development application in 2024 and look forward to working closely with Technip Energies to design a project that will place Tasmania at the centre of an emerging industry helping decarbonize the global transport sector,” said Ignacio Hernandez, HIF Asia Pacific’s CEO.
Hernandez expects the HIF Tasmania e-fuels plant to create up to 200 permanent full-time jobs and have output equivalent to decarbonising around 60,000 vehicles.
The project marks HIF Global’s first e-fuels venture in Australia. An earlier announcement stated that the company planned to install 250 MW of electrolysers at the Tasmania site and use biowaste to extract water for the hydrogen production process.
