French independent renewable power producer Technique Solaire Group said on Tuesday that it will install a 7-MWp floating solar plant on a lake at a recreational park in Limburg province in the Netherlands.

This will be the company’s second floating solar project in the country.

The background for the new plant will be BillyBird Park Drakenrijk, a recreational park operated by Dutch firm BillyBird which has developed such facilities around small lakes. Technique Solaire will use one of the water bodies for the installation of solar panels over a surface of 4.3 hectares (10.6 acres). The array is expected to produce around 6.4 GWh of electricity annually, the installer said.

Construction is scheduled to commence in the spring of 2023.

“Our 7 MW project adds nature to the surroundings while providing power to 2.200 households. We expect to do many more floating parks and already have several new projects in development,” said Dick Teunis, co-founder of Technique Solaire Nederland.

Technique Solaire and BillyBird also investigated whether solar panels could be placed on a separate 6.7-ha clean water reservoir that provides fresh water to the swimming lakes, the French company added.
