Eku Energy commissions 40-MW battery site in England
Sep 18, 2024 5:37 CESTTeesworks Ltd, the operator of the largest namesake industrial zone in the UK, has unveiled plans for the deployment of a 1,000-MW/4,000-MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in partnership with a local unit of renewables developer NatPower SA.
The GBP-1-billion (USD 1.27bn/EUR 1.17bn) project will be realised over 50 acres at the Long Acres section of the Teesworks site, the British firm said in a recent social media post.
The initiative has the potential to support electric vehicle (EV) charging.
“This agreement is a fantastic vote of confidence in Teesworks and our mission to advance renewable energy in the Tees Valley,” Teesworks Development Director Matt Johnson said.
Teesworks Ltd is overseeing the development of the Teesworks site. It is a joint venture private sector partnership between JC Musgrave Capital and Northern Land Management, supported by the South Tees Development Corporation.
