Tempur Sealy to run Albuquerque mattress assembly lines on solar power

US mattresses maker Tempur Sealy International Inc (NYSE:TPX) will use locally-generated renewable energy to power its largest mattress manufacturing operation.

The company said in a statement it will invest in a solar project for its site in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It expects to conclude that project by the end of the year.

By relying on this new system, Tempur will lower the annual electric consumption purchased from a public utility by about 2 million kWh.

"This reduction in our carbon footprint from the solar energy initiative alone equates to powering all mattress assembly lines at our largest facility, and at the same time, allows us to improve the cost effectiveness of our operations," said Scott Thompson, Tempur Sealy’s chairman and CEO.
