Grid operator TenneT has signed a contract, worth an estimated EUR 1.5 billion (USD 1.65bn), with eight parties to deliver cables for onshore high-voltage connections in Germany and the Netherlands in the coming years.

The multi-year contract, or corporate framework agreement, ensures the materials and resources for the timely execution of the planned high-voltage projects, the company said on Thursday.

The eight partners will supply and install the cables for the 110, 150, 220 and 380 kV onshore high-voltage AC connections in the two countries. The investment under the contract will be split equally between Germany and the Netherlands.

In the coming years, Tennet will deploy some 900 km of high-voltage in Germany and some 4,000 km in the Netherlands as the transition to renewable energy demands a significant expansion of the high-voltage power grid.

The eight contracted suppliers are Brugg Kabel GmbH, South Korea’s LS Cable & System Ltd, NKT GmbH & Co. KG, Prysmian Netherlands BV, Suedkabel GmbH, Taihan Netherlands BV, part of South Korea’s Taihan, TBEA Shandong Luneng Taishan Cable Co Ltd of China and TKF BV Twentsche Kabelfabriek of the Netherlands.
