Terra-Gen LLC has inked a virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) for about 178 MW of wind capacity annually that will benefit the US operations of local computer memory and data storage firm Micron Technology Inc (NASDAQ:MU).

“This partnership with Terra-Gen adds another utility-scale renewable energy project to our growing portfolio, supporting our goal to achieve 100% renewable energy in the US by the end of 2025,” Manish Bhatia, executive vice president of global operations at Micron, said in a statement last week.

The VPPA has a term of 15 years. Once operational, the project is expected to avoid more than 280,000 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (MTCO2e) emissions annually. Further details were not provided.

The deal with Terra-Gen, which operates over 2.2 GWh of wind, solar and energy storage throughout the US, marks the latest PPA signed by Micron. The US data storage firm has inked its first seven-year, 500-million-KWh green energy purchasing agreement in Taiwan and has already achieved 100% renewable energy in Malaysia.
