Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA), the US electric car maker that also deals in solar and energy storage, could rebuild the electricity network of Puerto Rico with its solar and battery systems, according to chief executive Elon Musk.

This was unveiled in a Twitter exchange on Thursday. Musk said that Tesla has done this for many small islands around the world and there is no scalability limit. The island of Ta'u in American Samoa, for instance, is powered by a Tesla microgrid, featuring 1.4 MW of solar panels and 6 MWh of battery storage from 60 Tesla Powerpacks.

"It's old electrical grid, which was in terrible shape, was devastated," US president Donald Trump said of Puerto Rico on Twitter after hurricane Maria caused widespread destruction on the island.
