Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTTesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA), the US electric car maker that also deals in solar and energy storage, could rebuild the electricity network of Puerto Rico with its solar and battery systems, according to chief executive Elon Musk.
This was unveiled in a Twitter exchange on Thursday. Musk said that Tesla has done this for many small islands around the world and there is no scalability limit. The island of Ta'u in American Samoa, for instance, is powered by a Tesla microgrid, featuring 1.4 MW of solar panels and 6 MWh of battery storage from 60 Tesla Powerpacks.
The Tesla team has done this for many smaller islands around the world, but there is no scalability limit, so it can be done for Puerto Rico too. Such a decision would be in the hands of the PR govt, PUC, any commercial stakeholders and, most importantly, the people of PR.
