Thai Mitr Phol to invest USD 177m in renewable power plants - report

Nov 30, 2011 - Thailand's Mitr Phol Sugar Corp is set to pour around THB 5.5 billion (USD 177m/EUR 133m) in three renewable power projects, two in Thailand and one in China, in 2012, the Bangkok Post reported yesterday, citing the group's president.

Mitr Phol is to spend THB 2.2 billion on boosting the capacity of its Phu Wiang bio-energy plant in the province of Khon Kaen by 44 MW. The Phu Luang project with a capacity of 67 MW in the province of Loei will cost THB 2 billion, while the company will also spend THB 1.3 billion-1.4 billion on constructing a 32-MW power plant in southern China.

The group expects to complete the projects by the end of 2012 or early 2013.

Mitr Phol has five bio-power plants with a total capacity of 307 MW, 134 MW of which is sold to utilities and the rest used at the company's sugar mills.

Mitr Phol on Monday signed an agreement to supply Thai Airways International with 100,000 tonnes of carbon credits in the form of certified emission reductions from its 68-MW bio-power facility in Suphan Buri.
