Tlou gets enviro nod for CBM, PV power plants in Botswana

Australian natural gas company Tlou Energy Ltd (ASX:TOU) has secured downstream Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) approval in Botswana for two power generation projects of up to 20 MW each, one to use coal bed methane (CBM) and the other - solar energy.

A 66-kV transmission line to Serowe has also been greenlit by the Department of Environmental Affairs.

This is the final environmental authorisation Tlou needed for the Lesedi CBM project, it said on Wednesday. It plans to initially build a 10-MW CBM power plant and then double its capacity. The company decided to add a solar photovoltaic (PV) component in the design because solar plants today need less maintenance and can be monitored remotely.

Tlou already has approval in place for upstream activities, involving CBM development drilling and exploration.
