The African Development Bank (AfDB) will provide financing for the construction of 50 MW of solar plants in Burkina Faso, the lender said last week.

The financing will be provided in partnership with the French development agency (AFD). It was announced by AfDB’s president Akinwumi Adesina during an official visit to Burkina Faso.

The photovoltaic (PV) project will be funded as part of AfDB’s budget support for Burkina Faso’s renewable energy sector. The African country and AfDB are partnering on several electrification projects that will be developed by 2021. One of them is the so-called North Dorsal scheme that will link Nigeria, Niger, Burkina Faso and Benin.
