to-the-point: Azeri President opens 50-MW wind park

The president of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev participated on Thursday in the commissioning ceremony for the 50-MW Yeni Yashma wind park in Khizi district.

The wind farm, which was reconstructed by German firm Berlin Wind, is located on 540 hectares (1,334 acres) between the villages of Yeni Yashma and Shurabad. The plant consists of 20 turbines with a total monthly output of about 9 million kWh.

The Yeni Yashma facility is the largest wind farm in the South Caucasus region. The commissioning of the plant has increased the share of alternative energy in Azerbaijan’s total production to 1.8% from 0.7%, according to the announcement.
