to-the-point: Botswana's Shumba Coal plans 200-MW solar farm

Shumba Coal (BSE:SHUMBA) intends to build a 100-MW solar park in Botswana and later expand it to 200 MW, Reuters said Tuesday, citing the mineral exploration company.

The firm is focused on the acquisition and development of coal exploration licences in Botswana and energy projects. The solar park is expected to produce power for new copper mines in the Kalahari copper belt off the grid, Reuters said, citing officials.

Botswana’s first solar plant of 1.3 MW was commissioned in August 2012.
