The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) said Monday it will finance a 1.4-MW solar project in Honduras.

The project has the support of the Spanish government through Spain’s Debt Conversion Program to Honduras. CABEI's contribution will be to the tune of HNL 70.7 million (USD 3m/EUR 2.8m).

The solar array will supply electricity to local university Universidad Pedagogica Nacional Francisco Morazan. While saving on its electricity bills, the university can use the extra money to improve its scholarship programme for students, professors and administrative personnel, CABEI noted in its press release.

(HNL 10 = USD 0.438/EUR 0.398)
