to-the-point: Chile SIC's wind, solar plants generate 6% in January

Chile's wind and solar farms in the central system SIC produced 265.9 GWh last month, equal to 5.8% of SIC's output, system operator CDEC-SIC has said in a report.

Wind farms provided 137.1 GWh, up 40.6% on the year, representing 3% of total output, while solar energy jumped 67.2% to 128.8 GWh. The system's installed wind and solar capacity reached 819.9 MW and 443.6 MW, respectively, out of a total 15,911 MW.

Run-of-river, biomass and biogas plants represented 27.9%, 3.9% and 0.4% of the monthly output, respectively.

Overall, SIC's gross power output decreased 0.3% year-on-year to 4,560 GWh, dominated by 2,183 GWh of hydro and 2,112 GWh of thermal generation.
