to-the-point: Eurasian Union scraps import duties for crystalline silicon

The imports of crystalline silicon will not be subject to custom duties when entering the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) until the end of 2016, RIA Novosti reported Monday.

The decision, taken by the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), will become effective 30 days after its official publication, according to the report.

Crystalline silicon is a crucial raw material for the solar and electronics industries. It was subject to zero duties in the Eurasian Economic Union between October 2013 and March 2014.

At present, the EAEU covers Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia.
