The government of Georgia will study eight sites for the construction of solar parks and is awaiting investor offers, according to Georgia’s PM Giorgi Kvirikashvili.

The government will conduct technical and economic studies in the next 18 months, Kvirikashvili said at a government meeting earlier this week, as cited by Georgia Today. Details on the planned capacity were not announced.

The construction of solar photovoltaic (PV) parks is regarded as another step towards Georgia’s power independence. In October 2016, the country inaugurated its first with farm, with a capacity of 20.7 MW. The facility, located in the Gori municipality in central Georgia, was funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
