The Jamaican government is putting the finishing touches on an agreement with Eight Rivers Energy Co Ltd (EREC) to build and operate a 33.1-MWp solar facility at Paradise Park, in Westmoreland.

Jamaica Information Service, or JIS News, on Monday, quoted Science, Energy and Tecnology Minister Andrew Wheatley as saying construction is scheduled to start by 2017, at the latest, with power supply commencing in 2018.

Around USD 50 million (EUR 44.3m) will be invested in the project which will sell power to the grid at t USD 0.854 per kWh

Besides this project, the minister said he will also present to the government a new Request for Proposals (RfP) for 100 MW of renewable energy and a 50-MW Waste to Energy project.
