The 280-MW Al Abdaliyah power plant in Kuwait, which will combine 60 MW of solar capacity with gas-fired units, is in the list of newly approved power and infrastructure projects.

Kuwait’s finance ministry said in the weekend, as cited by local media, that projects worth roughly KWD 3 billion (USD 10bn/EUR 9bn) have been given the green light. The power projects, in particular, will boost the country’s installed capacity by nearly 3.6 GW.

Details on when the approved projects will be completed or exactly how they will be financed were not given.

The members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) are expected to have 3.875 GW of cumulative installed solar energy capacity by 2017, according to a report by Apricum GmbH.
