The Electricity Generation Co Malawi Ltd (EGENCO) is seeking Expressions of Interest (EoI) for the construction of a 1.5-MW photovoltaic (PV) power system and its integration with the existing diesel generation system on Likoma and Chizumulu Islands.

Electricity on the two island is supplied via off-grid diesel generators, which currently are operated for only 14 hours a day to contain costs. EGENCO is also having logistical difficulties in managing fuel supply for the plants.

Submissions in response to the EoI invitation are due by July 2.

The US Trade and Development Agency provided information on the tender opportunity last week.
