Abu Dhabi-based renewable energy company Masdar has completed two photovoltaic (PV) systems of 500 kW each in Tuvalu and Kiribati, Emirates News Agency said Wednesday.

Tuvalu inaugurated its array located on the atoll of Funafuti on Tuesday. The solar PV and water protection plant on the Tarawa atoll in Kiribati is also to be officially presented by the end of the week, according to the report.

The solar installations were financed under the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development’s UAE-Pacific Partnership Fund and were developed in cooperation with the governments of the two Pacific Islands countries. In end-2014, Masdar initiated the construction of 1.8 MW of PV capacity across the nations of Kiribati, Fiji, Tuvalu and Vanuatu under the same scheme.
