to-the-point: Masdar completes over 50% of 16.6-MW solar project in Mauritania

Abu Dhabi-based renewable energy company Masdar today said it is more than halfway towards completing the construction of a 16.6-MW solar power plant network in Mauritania.

The network consists of eight solar power plants that will supply 30% of the electricity demand of a group of remote communities, reducing their dependency on diesel-fuelled generators.

Masdar has been selected for the project by Mauritanian national electricity provider Societe Mauritanienne d'electricite (SOMELEC). In 2013, the Abu Dhabi company completed a 15-MW solar power plant in the capital city of Nouakchott, which then accounted for more than 10% of Mauritania's grid-connected capacity.
