Nicaragua's minister of Mines and Energy, Salvador Mansell, said the government will invest more than USD 10 million (EUR 8.8m) in renewable energy projects this year, local media reported.

The minister announced plans to install thousands of solar panels in areas that are not connected to the national grid. At the same time, a wind farm will be built on Corn Island.

Earlier this month, South Korean government announced it will extend a USD-33.3-million loan to Nicaragua for a solar energy project concerning 164 rural communities.
