The Palestinian Energy Authority plans to launch an up to 100-MW solar power auction as it seeks developers for 10 projects, Bloomberg said on Monday.

The auction could be announced within days, Fuad Amleh, director general of the Palestinian energy authority, said as cited by the news agency.

The goal is to reduce power purchases from neighbouring Israel, currently accounting for 95% of the territories’ electricity, and reach the point where Palestine generates 50% of its power locally by 2020, Bloomberg said.

Officials anticipate the addition of up to 600 MW of solar and natural gas generation capacity in the territories over the next four years, the news agency added.
