Demand for solar and non-solar renewable energy certificates (RECs) in India improved slightly in August, with the total transaction value caming near INR 530 million (USD 7.9mEUR 7.2m).

Total of 39,978 solar RECs were sold, up from 37,973 in July 2016. Non-solar REC demand grew to 258,891 from 235,007 a month earlier.

Trading prices for both types of certificates remain at the minimum level defined by the government, because REC supply has been far greater than demand for years.

Under the REC scheme, renewable power producers in India receive credits for the power they produce if they do not take advantage of other incentives. The RECs are traded on the last Wednesday of the month.
