to-the-point: S Arabia plans electricity sector privatisation, solar growth

Saudi Arabia is proceeding with a plan to privatise the electricity sector and increase the use of alternative energy, especially solar power, the Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper said, citing sources in the know.

Saudi Arabia wants to have several companies in charge of power generation, which would be competing and ensuring lower prices for consumers. According to the report, the Public Authority for Electricity in Saudi Arabia is ready with a complete plan that includes a privatisation mechanism.

Saudi Arabia aims to have 41 GW of solar capacity by 2040.
