German inverter maker SMA Solar Technology (ETR:S92) has signed a deal to equip the 50-MWp Kita solar power plant in Mali, which is said to be the largest photovoltaic (PV) facility in West Africa.

Under the terms of the deal with project developer Akuo Energy, SMA will supply 21 units of its SMA Medium Voltage Power Station. The product represents a container that includes Sunny Central inverters, medium-voltage technology and a medium-voltage switchgear.

The solar park is expected to be hooked to the utility grid next year. It has a 28-year power purchase agreement (PPA) in place and is financed by several African banks.
